Preparedness Conferences
General Information
Statement of Need
Schools have a responsibility to prevent, be prepared for, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters that not only affect the school, staff and students, but also the community. They are important partners in county and community disaster plans. A safe school environment is essential to successful academics.
Cancellation Policy
If you are not able to attend the conference, please contact Mary Jean Erschen at 608-592-5200 or . as soon as possible so that others who are interested are able to attend. If you do not attend the workshop after registering, you will be responsible for the associated costs. Cancellations must be received 2 weeks prior to each workshop.
Workshop Incentives for Schools
Each participant will receive resources and information to enhance school crisis prevention, preparedness, response and recovery efforts.
Workshop Fees
- $70/person for single person registration
- $250/team for school/community teams of 5 persons (with $50 for each additional person; team members must register at the same time.)
The workshop is supported by the Office of Justice Assistance, Homeland Security Program, Wisconsin Emergency Management, and Department of Public Instruction for those listed in the Intended Audience section. Support includes materials, breaks, and lunch. The registration form is to be completed for each participant and submitted as soon as possible.
Exhibits/Vendors
Representatives from school safety companies are invited to display their products and be available to speak with you during the workshops.

Lodging
A block of rooms has been reserved at local hotels in proximity to each workshop. Please make your own reservations by calling the hotel associated with the workshop you are attending, and ask for a room in the "OJA School Safety Workshop" block. You will be responsible for your own lodging costs.
Special Needs
The Office of Justice Assistance and Center for School, Youth and Citizen Preparedness fully complies with the legal requirements of the ADA and the rules and regulations thereof. If any participant in this educational activity is in need of special accommodations, please call 608-592-5200 and fill out appropriate information on the registration form.
Continuing Education Information
One or two undergraduate or graduate non-program credits are available from the UW-La Crosse Department of Health Education and Health Promotion. Forms will be available at the registration table at each of the workshops.
The costs for credit(s), which are independent of the workshop registration, will be billed by UW-La Crosse.
